Through search engines it is possible to obtain all sorts of data from this global archive. Just one word is needed to automatically get millions of multimedia results. It is within this framework that I’ve decided to ponder and develop my work; being my own name: “Diego Martinez” the keywords used for the search. The result of this the consists on millions of images of different nature all grouped under the same name, which will be then selected and painted as if they were image thumbnails outside the computer. The work painted with oil on MDF wood, each image painted at a 1:1 scale corresponds to the exact size of the images on the computer screen. <img Wed, 19 May 2010 00:53:04 +0000 works by diego martínez 419316 Naturalezas introduces a young group of artists who, using traditional formats such as painting, drawing and sculpting, work to create their own interpretations of nature. While it is true that this concept has adopted different meanings throughout the course of history, it is interesting nonetheless to see how a group of contemporary Chilean artists approach the issue. This project should not be viewed as a discourse on the environment. Rather, the works use a contemporary point of view to shed light on the relationships between species, the dialogue between biological structures and "artistic structures", the notion of human nature and the manner in which certain practices dictate our relationship with the animal species. This exhibit was a result of a curatorial research seminar which brought together the artists mentioned below. The aim of the seminar was to engage in discussions and generate a line of research that would aide in the production of future works.
